How to Overcome Spiritual Complacency

Jun 28, 2024

Have you ever felt off- like you're just kind of blah about things? Have you ever felt stagnant? Do you feel like your fire is not hot or burning in this season? When life starts "lifin", how do you respond?

Well, let me just answer some of those questions. There were times in my life where I felt really BLAH about people, situations and circumstances. My fire wasn't going strong. I felt stagnant. I didn't want to fool with a lot of people. My connection with God felt off. I knew that I was in one of those seasons of complacency!

When you feel complacent spiritually.....you know it deep down. You first have to recognize that you're showing a few of these signs:

  1. Lack of passion for God's word. You don't feel like reading it or studying it, and sometimes you can find an excuse as to "why you not getting in the Word of God".
  2. You're not praying like you used to.
  3. You get comfortable with sin or hang around people that you know ain't living right.
  4. You don't want to be around "church folks".
  5. You feel stagnant in your spiritual growth.

There are so many others I can include, but that's it for now. But if that's you, you need to figure a way to come out of it!

Let me give you a few:

  1. Renew Your Devotion: Make a conscious effort to renew your devotion to God through prayer, Bible study, and worship.
  2. Seek Accountability: Find a trusted friend or mentor who can hold you accountable and encourage you in your spiritual journey.
  3. Serve Others: Actively look for opportunities to serve others and participate in your church community.
  4. Set Spiritual Goals: Set specific, attainable goals for your spiritual growth, such as reading a certain number of Bible chapters each week or volunteering regularly.
  5. Pray for Revival: Ask God to rekindle your passion and commitment to Him.
